Principal's Message

As a young entrepreneur, Thomas Edison challenged his staff by stating, “There’s a way to do it better…find it.” At Volusia Online Learning, we are constantly challenging ourselves in the same spirit; looking for a better way to approach public education.  Established in 2009, VOL has evolved in purpose and presence over the years.  While we originally started as a program to supplement the brick-and-mortar schools in the district, VOL is now a full-fledged District Virtual School, offering full and part-time options at all grade levels and serving over 4,000 students annually.  Our current “better way” offers students a flexible and innovative learning model without sacrificing the academic rigor of the face-to-face environment.  Additionally, our dedicated faculty and staff go above and beyond to provide consistent and effective parent and student communication, a vital characteristic of a quality virtual school program.  

Now in my third year at VOL, I have been blown away by the expertise, sincerity, and passion of the VOL family.  I am incredibly excited about what VOL can bring to this community, its potential as a stand-alone K-12 school, and its ability to be “a better way” for so many students and families.  I wish you all the very best for this school year.  Please feel free to contact me at any time should you have any questions about our dynamic and innovative learning model.
