3.1 Kindergarten Academics: Elementary K-5
Daily Schedule
Having a consistent daily routine and schoolwork schedule is important for student success. Just as students in a traditional brick and mortar school follow a daily class schedule that remains constant with specific scheduled times for each subject/class, students working online will benefit from the same type of structure.

Pacing
The VOL Full Time program follows the district (VCS) academic calendar. Although the online content is split into two segments (semesters), it is imperative for students and families to adhere to the pacing guide for each course, as grades will be reported at the end of each nine weeks/quarter.
Grade Reporting Period | Submission Deadline | Time |
Quarter 1 | Friday, October 14th | 3:00 pm |
Quarter 2 | Thursday, December 15th | 3:00 pm |
Quarter 3 | Thursday, March 9th | 3:00 pm |
Quarter 4 | Friday, June 2nd | 3:00 pm |
Staying on pace means submitting all work during the week it is due. This practice avoids getting behind and allows students to focus on their work one week at a time instead of struggling to get caught up. Just like in a traditional brick and mortar setting, when a student is out for an extended period of time, the student is required to complete any missing/make up work, in addition to the current daily work. This may result in extra daily work hours.
Throughout the semester teachers may assign temporary zeros for any work that is past due. These zeros are placeholders that will stay in the grade book until the missing work has been submitted and graded. Before this occurs, all families will be notified for clarity.
It is recommended that families print out the course pace charts for the semester for each class so that students can cross off their assignments along the way.
Live Lessons
Class time is an important part of our program. This live instruction opportunity allows for the teacher and students to come together to engage in the content and curriculum. It can also be a lot of fun, providing students with opportunities to develop friendships, ask questions, and interact with others during the school day. It is an expectation that students will both attend and participate in class time sessions for all their courses (core and special area).
Teachers will provide students and families with the schedule for their live class times. It is recommended that students print out the schedule and keep it in their workspace so they never miss a class. In the event a student must miss a session, classroom teachers will provide a recording of the lesson for the student to review at a later time.
During live class sessions, student behavior should always be school appropriate.
During class time students will interact with their teacher and classmates using an audio/video platform called Zoom. Also, during class time teachers may incorporate other programs such as Nearpod, Quizlet, Kahoot, etc. to enhance the lesson.
Just like a traditional classroom, students should be prepared with any school supplies needed for the lesson and the assignment. Teachers will provide families with the suggested school supply list for the appropriate grade level.
