Eligible Students Invited to Participate in Summer Academic Programs
DELAND – Invitations have gone out to Volusia County Schools families whose students meet the eligibility for additional academic instruction during the summer, and parents and guardians are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity.
VCS is offering comprehensive summer programs this year – including a new academic bootcamp for elementary in June, and middle and high school credit retrieval labs in June and July, in addition to VCS’ traditional summer program offerings in July. Summer programs are taught by VCS teachers.
Teachers and school administrators follow set criteria such as test scores, grades, and classroom evaluations to determine which students are offered extra assistance in the summer. Families who plan to participate should return the form to their school as soon as possible.
In addition, some middle and high school students may qualify for participation in credit retrieval labs this summer, depending on fourth-quarter grades.
“Our summer programs will give students an academic boost to make sure they’re succeeding at their grade level and are well-prepared for next school year,” said VCS Superintendent Dr. Scott Fritz. “If your family has received an invitation, we encourage you to participate.”

VCS hopes all families will take advantage of summer break to give students an academic boost. Families are asked to set aside time every day for reading, writing, science, and math.
