PSAT/NMSQT
Volusia County Schools will administer the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test to 10th and 11th grade students on October 12, 2022. This test is used as a counseling and diagnostic tool which can also be used to get students to start thinking about advanced coursework and college/career planning. While this test is optional for students, there are many benefits for students that take it, some of which are the following:
· The PSAT/NMSQT test is an indicator of performance on the SAT.
· The PSAT/NMSQT includes reading, mathematics, and writing and language components that focus on the knowledge and skills that are most essential for college and career readiness and success; it is also used as a diagnostic tool to measure and follow student performance and pinpoint areas for development.
· Results can help identify each student’s potential for academic success at the postsecondary level.
· Test results will provide high school guidance counselors with information to help identify students who may be ready to enroll and be successful in Advanced Placement and other college preparatory courses, or identify students who may need additional instruction to do so.
· Test results can open up discussion about future education plans that may not have been considered otherwise.

PSAT 9
PSAT 9
9th grade students are eligible to take the Preliminary SAT 8/9 (PSAT 8/9), this test will take place at your zoned school on October 12, 2022. The PSAT 8/9 tests the same skills and knowledge as the SAT, PSAT/NMSQT, and PSAT 10—in a way that makes sense for ninth graders. It measures what they’re already learning, shows them whether they’re on track for college, and lets them know where they need the most improvement. That means students have time to tackle these areas long before they take the SAT. To help us expedite the process we are requiring VOL students register. Registration closes October 3 at 11:59 pm. Please remember, parents are responsible for providing transportation to and from the student’s zoned school.
